Tilvísunarathugun (e. Reference Check)

Tilvísunarathugun er eiginleiki í Scite sem gerir notendum kleift að hlaða upp skjáli og fá fljótt innsýn í hvernig heimildir eru notaðar og hvort einhver þeirra vekji athygli — til dæmis vegna afturköllunar eða fjölda andstæðra tilvísana.

Tilvísunarathugun greinir PDF-handrit og býr til nákvæma skýrslu sem sýnir:

• Hvernig skjalið vitnar í hverja heimild

• Hvort einhver heimild hafi fengið ritstjórnarathugasemdir (t.d. afturköllun, leiðréttingu)

• Hvernig hver heimild hefur verið vitnuð í af öðrum (styðjandi, andmælandi eða hlutlaus tilvísun)

Reference Check is a Scite feature that helps improve the publishing and peer-review process. It allows users to upload a manuscript and quickly evaluate how references are used and whether any raise concerns, such as retractions or high levels of contrasting citations.

Reference Check analyzes a PDF manuscript and generates a detailed report that shows:

• How the manuscript cites each of its references

• Whether any cited works have editorial notices (e.g. retractions, corrections)

• How each reference has been cited by others (supporting, contrasting, or mentioning)

This tool is especially useful for authors, editors, and reviewers seeking to ensure the quality and integrity of citations in a manuscript.

To run a Reference Check:

1. Go to the Product tab and click Reference Check

2. Upload the PDF of your manuscript

3. Wait for the analysis to complete — the system will generate your report

4. Access your completed Reference Checks any time from your Profile under “Reference Checks”

Each Reference Check report contains:

• A summary of how many references were detected

• A count of total citations to those references from other publications

• Any editorial concerns flagged

• An overview of citation statements — the actual sentences from the manuscript that cite each reference

• Filters to sort references by citation type or concern

• Highlighted citation snippets from the manuscript

• An ordered list of references, with flags for:

  • Retractions

  • Corrections

  • High levels of contrasting citations

In the example above, a Reference Check was run on a manuscript titled:
“Eosinophils support adipocyte maturation and promote glucose tolerance in obesity.”

Results included:

• 41 references detected

• 1 reference with editorial notices

• Over 41,000 combined citations to these references

• The reference with issues (Suzawa et al., 2003) had 2 editorial notices: a retraction and a correction

• The manuscript had 2 citations to this paper, both of which were flagged

By reviewing the citation statements, users could see exactly how the manuscript used that retracted reference — helping inform decisions about its reliability.
